Salud del Sol is a limited liability company organized in Ohio. We are in the process of filing for 501(c)(3) non-profit status, which we hope will be finalized by the end of this summer. If you have an interest in our non-profit status pending a final determination by the IRS, contact us at “info@saluddelsol.org.”
Salud del Sol team members Anna Young and Daniel Hensel have been working onsite in Sabana Grande, Nicaragua since May 19th. Lori Hanna arrived in Nicaragua on June 19th. They returned to the U.S. on August 8th.
The team in Nicaragua has several goals for the summer of 2008. Their primary goal centers on collaborating with Grupo Fenix to ensure the long-term success of Las Mujeres Solares de Totogalpa and their el Centro Solar. Daniel and Lori will be building a solar autoclave prototype and continuing the design, engineering and quality aspects of this exciting product for rural health clinics in Nicaragua. Anna is supporting business development and planning for Las Mujeres Solares, which included contributing to the final draft of their grant request as a finalist for the U.N. SEED Initiative, which was submitted on June 9th.
On a “down to earth” level, the team helped dig a rain runoff ditch to protect the Solar Center building and helped work on installing a front gate and concrete sidewalk to the front door of the building. Many days of the week at about 10am, the team attends and pays for Spanish classes as a simple way to improve their own life skills and contribute to the local economy of Sabana Grande.
