January 13, 2008 - Lori Hanna, UD senior in mechanical engineering, and her faculty advisor, Dr. Margaret Pinnel, were awarded a $1,000 Carter Academic Service Entrepreneur (CASE) grant from ServiceBook.org for her Solar Autoclave project. The Solar Autoclave project will provide rural health clinics in Nicaragua the ability to sterilize medical instruments. The grant money will be used for testing and prototyping supplies during research and development of the autoclave, especially in-country.

Nicaragua Ministry of Health Grants Permission

On July 9th, Lori Hanna, Executive Director and Anna Young, Director of Development along with Susan Kinne of Grupo Fenix met with the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA). After the meeting, Salud del Sol received official permission from Dr. Jorge Orochena S., Director of Services Organizations, for the continuation of the solar autoclave research and development project.
